Media Advisory: 2020 Republican National Convention Spring Media Walkthrough Scheduled for April 15

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Committee on Arrangements (COA) for the 2020 Republican National Convention will host a media walkthrough event Wednesday, April 15 in Charlotte.

Members of the media who will be accredited to cover the convention are invited to attend an informational briefing, walkthrough Spectrum Center and Charlotte Convention Center and view assigned workspace, broadcast suites and stand-up positions.

The walkthrough will address a range of topics including administrative and logistical needs, issuing media tickets and credentials, deposit requirements and payment deadlines. Media representatives will be able to tour their assigned work areas within Spectrum Center and the Charlotte Convention Center.

2020 RNC Convention Spring Media Walkthrough

WHEN: Wednesday, April 15, 2020

A full itinerary of the day’s events will be sent in advance to registered media outlets. However, for planning purposes, registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. ET on April 15, with the briefing scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. ET.

REGISTRATION: ALL PARTIES WISHING TO ATTEND MUST APPLY

All applications must be received no later than April 3, 2020.

WHERE TO STAY:
The Spring Media Walkthrough (SMWT) hotel block is confirmed at the SpringHill Suites Charlotte Uptown (311 East 5th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202) at a rate of $179 per night. Call Reservations at 704-439-8100 and reference the “RNC Spring Media Walkthrough.”

The cut-off date for the hotel block is March 27, 2020.

CONVENTION VENDOR INFORMATION:
The Official Vendors for various services and supplies will be available by appointment on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, April 14, 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 15, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 16, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Convention will be providing access to diverse carrier options for video and connection to long haul services through Charter Communications and AT&T.

Charter Communications will provide a rate guide for services around Spectrum Center and Charlotte Convention Center, including cable TV service.

AT&T will provide services in several sponsored constructed media seating areas in the arena.

COVID-19 PREPARATIONS
In light of current events, we recommend that only essential personnel attend the Spring Media Walkthrough. The convention team will continue to closely monitor and coordinate with key stakeholders across the administration, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to obtain regular updates on COVID-19.

We recognize it could impact travel for those wishing to attend the Spring Media Walkthrough. As such, planning is underway to ensure all media can access information necessary to plan their coverage for the 2020 Republican National Convention.

The 2020 Republican National Convention will be held at Spectrum Center from August 24-27, 2020.
